Finally Getting Started

A year and a half after initial purchase we have officially began the remodel.  The first phase consists of removing old siding, replacing it with OSB, then new siding and windows.  We are going with insulated vinyl siding in a 9 inch width.  We thought it would be better in the long run versus hardie siding, mailny for maintenance. As the exterior is started the plaster is being removed from only the interior walls inside the house.  The exterior walls will be stripped only after the OSB is in place on the outside.  After the plaster is completely removed everything should begin taking shape.  I'll create a new post for that, I'm tired of typing now.

Front porch gone, que JD...

OSB is replacing original wood siding.  This process gets creative as the house isn't exactly square.
Chimney exposed upstairs.  Would like to remove to allow more space in rooms.
I think they're getting excited about having their own rooms.  They'll both be scared to death the first month sleeping by themselves though.

Bare stairs.

Looking from kitchen to dining room.  This wall will be spanned with an LVL beam to open the rooms to each other.

Pile o' plaster and lathing.

Looking out master bedroom door to stairway.

Bud began excavation today.  You're looking at the future patio which will double as a drainage swale.

Ha, this is a good story.  The roll off dumpster companies don't want to haul 4-5 tons of full dumpster back across our bridge, not to mention they cost a fortune to rent, so we are piling up the non-metal trash, digging a hole, pushing it in, burning it and then burying it. Hopefully we don't hit bedrock 2 feet down...

They use the truck to haul the trash to "the hole".

A little something left by the workers in the front yard.  Man they need to hydrate more.
